The problem
The S3 console shows you a page of a prefix. To find one file in a bucket of a few million, you either know the exact key or you write a script that lists everything. Neither is a search.
> Measured from the product, September 2026: 240M+ objects indexed, 50 TB under management, across Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Google Cloud Storage and customers' own servers.
What BucketPilot does
- •An index, built once and kept current. Press Index on a bucket and BucketPilot walks it in the background — a few million objects take minutes — then keeps the index current as you upload, with hourly or daily auto-sync, or from S3 Inventory for very large buckets.
- •Search that means search. Wildcards, filters by type, size and storage class, sort by anything, across every bucket and server in the workspace at once.
- •Duplicates, matched on content. The same file under forty-eight names is found, with the groups wasting the most and a link to every copy.
- •Folder sizes and per-object cost, so the answer to "what is in here" comes with "and what it costs".
How to start
- 1.Connect the account under Credentials.
- 2.Import the bucket under Buckets & Servers and press Index bucket.
- 3.Type in the search box.
Starter indexes up to 1M objects, Pro 10M, Business 50M; Enterprise is custom. A bucket that outgrows the plan keeps its existing index — only new indexing pauses until you upgrade.
Questions
- Does the index read my file contents?
- No. It holds object names, sizes, storage classes and checksums — never the bytes. Search is on names and metadata.
- How current is it?
- Uploads through BucketPilot are indexed as they land. Objects written straight to the bucket by other tools are picked up by auto-sync (hourly or daily) or the next S3 Inventory report.
- Does it work for servers too?
- Yes. A Linux or Windows server connected over SSH is indexed the same way and searched from the same box.
