BucketPilot Drop for Linux — a desktop app, and a program for servers
BucketPilot Drop now runs on Linux: a desktop app for Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and relatives, and a single-file program for servers that uploads a folder to your bucket as a service. One line installs either, from a signed package repository.
Drop started as a drive on a Mac or a PC. The same upload engine now runs on Linux, in two forms.
For a server: bucketpilot-drop
A single program with nothing else to install — no Node, no runtime — for the machines that never have a screen: a scanner share, a render farm, a camera ingest. Sign in with a code you approve from any browser, pick a bucket, and a service watches the folder and uploads whatever lands in it.
curl -fsSL https://packages.bucketpilot.io/install.sh | sudo sh -s -- --server
bucketpilot-drop login
bucketpilot-drop connect <bucket>- •Files leave the folder once they have arrived. A file is removed from the server only after BucketPilot confirmed it; a failed upload never removes anything. Keep them instead with
--after-upload keep. - •The bucket's folders appear in the drop, and a folder you make there is created in the bucket.
- •Changing bucket empties the drop and shows the new bucket's folders. Files are moved aside, not deleted, and nothing in either bucket is touched.
- •A log of every transfer and failure at
/var/log/BucketPilot/drop.log. The server appears under Settings → Connected devices like any other computer.
It runs on x86-64 and arm64, on glibc 2.17 or newer (Ubuntu 18.04 and CentOS 7 onwards) on x86-64 — an older system is refused by the package manager rather than installed and failing later.
For a desk: the desktop app
curl -fsSL https://packages.bucketpilot.io/install.sh | sudo shOn Linux the drop is a plain folder, ~/BucketPilot_Drop, rather than a drive. For a machine without a package manager, ask us for the AppImage as a .tar.gz with a Run.sh: unpack it and run it, with nothing to install.
Signed, and updated like everything else
The script adds a signed apt or dnf repository after checking the signing key's fingerprint, so updates arrive with your normal system updates and a tampered package or index is refused. Setup, commands and troubleshooting are on the new BucketPilot Drop page.
